REGINA — A 29-year-old man is facing weapons-related charges after police arrested him on outstanding warrants and discovered a loaded semi-automatic shotgun in the trunk of a taxi he was in.
On Aug. 19, at approximately 8 a.m., officers observed a man wanted on outstanding warrants travelling in a taxi in the area of Quebec Street and 13thAvenue. A traffic stop was conducted near the 1700 block of St. John Street and, when the driver stopped, the suspect ran from the vehicle into a nearby residence.
Patrol members arrived and contained the residence. As officers approached, several people exited the home, including the adult male suspect, who was arrested without incident. One additional adult male and one male youth were also arrested on unrelated matters.
After his arrest, officers searched the vehicle the suspect had been travelling in and located a duffle bag in the trunk. Inside the bag, officers found and seized a loaded semi-automatic shotgun.
Gerald Keenatch is charged with four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to court prohibition, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device in a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm knowing he was unauthorized, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and failing to comply with a probation order.
Keenatch appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 19.
