REGINA — A 50-year-old Regina man faces charges after police say he was caught stealing copper wire from a compound on the city’s east side early Monday morning.
According to Regina Police Service, at approximately 1 a.m. on Aug. 24, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 400 block of Winnipeg Street.
The Aerial Support Unit (ASU) located the vehicle and observed a suspect in the area. The ASU continued to monitor the suspect as he moved through several nearby properties. At approximately 2:30 a.m., the suspect parked a vehicle on 2nd Avenue North near Quebec Street and returned to a property in the 400 block of Winnipeg Street.
A short time later, the ASU observed the suspect enter a compound and remove copper wire. The suspect then left the compound and headed back toward his vehicle. Officers located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. A search subsequent to arrest located a pair of wire cutters.
He was charged with break and enter and possession of break in instruments.
