LLOYDMINSTER — A routine traffic stop by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Lloydminster Crime Reduction Team has resulted in the seizure of seven different illicit subtances, three firearms, and a combined 68 criminal charges against three people.
On Aug. 18, at approximately 5 p.m., the CRT unit received a report of an armed male. The male was believed to be travelling in a vehicle towards the Lloydminster or Battlefords area.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Lloydminster CRT located the suspect vehicle on Highway 16, near the City of Lloydminster. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and conducted a traffic stop. As a result of investigation, three occupants inside the vehicle were arrested at the scene.
During a search of the vehicle and the arrested individuals, officers located a number of illicit substances and weapons. The illicit substances seized by officers included approximately 447 grams of fentanyl, 761 grams of cocaine, 85 grams of methamphetamine, 226 grams of psilocybin, 700 millilitres of gamma hydroxybutyrate, 2,627 pharmaceutical-style oxycodone pills, and 441 pharmaceutical-style Xanax pills.
Lloydminster CRT also seized three firearms, including a loaded handgun, three loaded firearms magazines, and almost 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
Further investigation determined one of the occupants had removed a court-ordered electronic monitoring device earlier that day.
As a result of continued investigation, 28-year-old Omar Cristiano Caceres from Bonnyville, AB, 26-year-old Zanielle Demarais from Lloydminster, Sask., and 30-year-old Kevin Kahmahkotayo from Lloydminster, Sask., are each charged with three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts, possession of a firearm in motor vehicle, possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without license/registration, possession of firearm with tampered serial number, and seven counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Omar Cristiano Caceres is additionally charged with six counts of weapons possession contrary to a court order, five counts of possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing its possession is unauthorized, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Caceres was also arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.
Kahmahkotayo is additionally charged with failing to comply with release order conditions, and five counts, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing its possession is unauthorized.
Demarais is additionally charged with five counts of possession of a firearm when knowing its possession is unauthorized.
Caceres, Demarais, and Kahmahkotayo appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Aug
