The annual finger wrestling championships recently took place for the 65th year in the Bavaria region of Germany. Approximately 150 participants competed to see who had the strongest middle finger.
The concept behind the competition is quite simple. In fact, it makes one wonder if this was started by a group of bored customers in a German pub! Two people sit across from each other at a table and link their middle finger together with a leather ban. Once everyone is ready competitors then try to see who can pull the person across the table using just strength of their middle finger. Sometimes these battles last only a few seconds and sometimes they’ll go on as long as a minute.
One competitor, Ferdinand Seitz, tells Euro News that the pain is excruitiaing as he showed off a bloody finger, but says other sports can be just as brutal.
One of the rules participants must be aware of is watching where they place their feet. Finger pullers can’t use their feet for leverage. There are also various age and weight categories “finger atheletes” can compete in.
