SASKATOON, Sask. — Members of the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) responded to two separate incidents involving bear spay on Aug. 24. One attack left a man injured, and a second involved a robbery where a victim had his photo and shoes stolen. .
At approximately 4:50 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Avenue U South for a report of an injured person.
When officers arrived, they located a male suffering from the effects of bear spray. He was treated on scene by paramedics and members of the Saskatoon Fire Department.
Through investigation, officers learned the victim was walking on 18th Street and was crossing the street at Avenue U South when another man discharged bear spray at the victim and ran away.
Then at around 10:05 p.m., police were dispatched to a possible robbery in the 400 block of Avenue V South.
Arriving officers located a 47-year-old man with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with an assault and bear spray. He was transported to hospital by paramedics for further medical treatment.
Officers learned the man was walking when a group of people assaulted him and took his phone and shoes.
