REGINA, Sask. — A 33-year-old Alberta man is facing charges following a two-month investigation by the Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT Regina).
Regina police say the investigation began in July 2026, after officers received information that an adult male was involved in drug trafficking in Regina. In August 2026, the investigation expanded to include the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) in Lloydminster, Alberta. ALERT had received information the same male was drug trafficking in their jurisdiction.
On Aug. 27, STRT investigators, assisted by the Crime Reduction Team (CRT Regina) and Tactical Support Team (TST), arrested the suspect without incident. Following the arrest, officers searched the suspect and his belongings, seizing approximately 3.5 kilograms of fentanyl, an airsoft pistol, brass knuckles, and $350 CAD.
Regina Police Service says it’s believed that this seizure prevented 35,000 single doses of illicit fentanyl from being distributed on the streets of Regina. The approximate street value of this seizure is $350,000.
Joey Hillier of Vermillion, Alta., is charged with possession for the Purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing its possession was unauthorized, and failing to comply with a release order.
Hillier appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 28.
STRT is a specialized intelligence-led enforcement team dedicated to addressing illegal weapons, drugs and human trafficking throughout the province of Saskatchewan. It includes investigators and support staff from multiple policing agencies across the province. The Regina contingent consists of two Regina Police Service investigators.
