REGINA, Sask. — Regina residents may debate which neighbourhood is the safest, most affordable or best place to live, but new data is weighing in on another question: Which one is the friendliest?
A Nextdoor survey has ranked Sherwood Estates/McCarthy Park as the city’s friendliest neighbourhood.
The rankings are not based on a traditional poll or survey, as Maya Kosoff, communications manager with Nextdoor, explained.
“We've developed this Nextdoor friendliness score, which is a series of signals taken from our platform.”
These signals include the tone of neighbour conversations on the platform and how often people's requests for help or recommendations are being fulfilled.
“So we can see when neighbours within the same neighbourhood are, for example, talking to one another, or what they're talking about, or the tone of those conversations,” said Kosoff.
For the rankings, an index score for neighbourhood friendliness is given.
Sherwood Estates/McCarthy Park topped the rankings with a friendliness index of 100, followed by Parkdale at 99 and Eastview at 95.
A lower-ranked neighbourhood reflects less positive conversations and fewer instances of neighbours helping one another on the platform.
Notably, only 20 neighbourhoods in Regina made the list, said Kosoff.
“If you don’t see a neighbourhood included, it could be because we don’t have enough people from that neighbourhood on the platform to make substantial conclusions about their behaviour.”
While Kosoff said not everyone will agree with the method of the list, it will spark a healthy debate.
“There are lots of ways to define friendliness. This is simply the way we measure it.”
The 2026 rankings mark the first time Nextdoor has released its friendliness list in Canada.
“This is really the first one, which is what makes it so exciting,” Kosoff said.
She added that the company hopes to compare the results year over year and potentially introduce other rankings in Canada in the future.
