The scene of one of the most horrific mass killings in Saskatchewan history has declared a state of emergency.
Sunday afternoon, the band council made the announcement to get more support for the people devastated by this morning’s mass stabbing spree by two men. Both are still on the loose, with the last sighting in Regina around lunchtime Sunday.
Police described dozens of crime scenes, with ten people killed, 15 injured, and the suspicion there could be more people who were hurt, but they took themselves to hospital for treatment.
The statement from the band council states “JSCN call this state of emergency to the attention of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN), Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC), Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority
(NITHA), Athabasca Health Authority (AHA), Canadian Red Cross, Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), Health Canada’s First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), and the Ministry of Health-Province of Saskatchewan.
Two Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) have been set up to help provide health support to
the communities.”
The government of Saskatchewan has not said yet, what it will make available to help the community.
