The Regina Pats scored the first four goals against the Brandon Wheat Kings en route to a 6-3 road victory on Friday night.
Ellis Mieyette bookended the first of those four tallies, the second of which gave the Pats a huge advantage 2:40 into the second period. The over-age forward is now up to four goals through two preseason contests this month.
Zach Moore chipped in a short-handed marker and 16-year-old Liam Pue also found the net as part of the early offensive attack.
Tomas Cermak and Jace Egland (empty net) also scored for the Pats. Maddox Schultz, another 16-year-old with star potential, had two assists. Taylor Tabashniuk stopped 26 of 29 shots in the Regina net.
Jaxon Jacobson, Cameron Coulter, and Cole Hunter responded for the Wheat Kings, who got 40 saves from Filip Ruzicka.
The Saskatoon Blades pummelled the Swift Current Broncos 7-2 on the strength of five second-period goals.
Ben Bowtell scored twice in the middle frame, while Cooper Williams, Kain Martinuik, and Cohen Lewko added singles to break open a game that was tied 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
Konstantin Hutzinger and Charles Johnson also scored four the Blades, and Bowtell set up Hutzinger’s marker for a three-point night. Martin Psohlavec turned aside 37 shots for the visitors.
Luke Huska and Jace McFaul had the Swift Current goals. Wyatt Riemer got the start for the Broncos and allowed five goals on 25 shots before giving way to Archer Cooke, who stopped 19 of the 21 shots he faced.
Brandon Gorzynski paced the offence for Prince Albert Raiders with a goal and two assists in a 5-3 win over the Albert Raiders.
Carsyn Dyck and Liam Myhre recorded a goal and a helper apiece for the defending Eastern Conference champions. Brendyn Van Oene and Jonah Sivertson had the other two markers for the host Raiders.
Karter Lundmark opened the scoring for the Warriors 8:16 into the game before the Raiders netted the only three goals of the second period. Nolan Paquette pulled the Warriors within one early in the third before Rasmus Kamarainen tied the contest at 5:34 on a penalty shot.
Sivertson’s winner came barely four minutes later, however, and Gorzynski’s empty-netter secured the Raiders win.
Steele Bass and Chase Kettles split the goaltending duties for Prince Albert. Bass stopped five of six shots, whereas Kettles made 17 saves and allowed two goals.
Kyle Jones and Cade Mitchell also shared the crease for the Warriors. Jones turned aside 25 of the 28 pucks he faced, and Mitchell went 17-for-18.
