REGINA, Sask. — A 52-year-old man is facing several charges after and aerial pursuit and a brief foot chase.
Regina Police Service say that just before 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 5, a Canine Unit officer on routine patrol in North Central Regina, in the area of 1st Avenue North and Broad Street, when he spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen. When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to stop and accelerated at high speed.
The Aerial Support Unit (ASU) was notified and got eyes on the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was observed travelling at speeds of up to 140 km/h as it drove through the city, say police. Officers on the ground didn’t pursue the vehicle.
ASU tracked the suspect vehicle until it came to a stop on Regency Crescent. ASU directed officers on the ground to the location. Following a short foot pursuit, the driver was arrested without further incident.
The man has been charged with possession of property valued over $5,000 obtained by crime, failing to comply with conditions of a release order, flight from police, and dangerous driving.
He appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 8.
