The beat just keeps on keeping on for the Regina Pats in the WHL preseason.
The Pats picked up their sixth straight win of the exhibition campaign on Friday night, battling to a 3-2 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert.
As a result, Regina continues to shine through their busy preseason schedule and are the only undefeated team in the East Division heading into the final weekend of exhibition action.
Other games on Friday saw the Brandon Wheat Kings take a 6-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors in Brandon, while the Swift Current Broncos won 4-3 in a shootout over the Tigers in Medicine Hat.
Regina 3, Prince Albert 2
The two teams exchanged goals late in the first period, with Maddix McCagherty giving Prince Albert the lead with 4:30 to play in the frame and Cohen Klassen responding for Regina just over two minutes later.
That’s where things sat at the 2:56 mark of the second when Liam Pue found the back of the net to give Regina the lead. Keets Fawcett then scored on the power play with 9:19 to play to extend the Pats’ edge to two.
McCagherty scored his second goal of the game 2:02 after Fawcett’s marker to close out scoring.
Maddox Schultz had a pair of assists for Regina.
Taylor Tabashniuk finished with 27 saves to earn the win in goal for the Pats, Brady Holtvogt had 29 stops for the Raiders.
Brandon 6, Moose Jaw 2
The Warriors got off to a good start with William Degagne scoring only 4:03 into the contest, but that was the last bit of good news for the visitors until late in the second period.
Brandon scored four goals to take control of the game, with Colin Grubb finding the back of the net twice while Brett Wilson and Jim Cruz added single markers.
Gage Nagel got one back for the Warriors with 5:37 to play in the second, but Ahmad Fayed and Chase Surkan scored the only goals of the third period for the Wheat Kings.
Grubb finished with three points, while Surkan added an assist and Kris Muissu had a pair of helpers.
Ryley Budd had 34 saves for Brandon. Kyle Jones turned aside 25 for Moose Jaw.
Brandon improves to 1-2-0-0 on the preseason. Moose Jaw falls to 0-4-1-0.
Swift Current 4, Medicine Hat 3
Ty Muenier ended up as the double hero for the Broncos, scoring both the game-tying goal in the dying seconds of regulation and then adding the game winner in the shootout.
Carter Moen put the Broncos on the board at the 10:02 mark of the third, but Medicine Hat scored three straight over the next period and a half to take a 3-1 lead into the final frame.
Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll tied the game with 1:39 left in the first, after which Cam Parr and Josh Evaschesen scored the only goals of the second period for the Tigers.
That set the stage for the third-period comeback, with Brendan Rudolph making it a one-goal game with 6:28 to play in regulation.
Muenier then tied things up with 38 seconds left on the clock. After overtime solved nothing, he scored the game winner as Swift Current’s fifth shooter.
Rudolph and Muenier each had two points on the night.
Archer Cooke earned the win in goal for the Broncos thanks to a 39-save showing. Cash Christie stopped 18 shots for the Tigers.
Swift Current is now 2-2-0-0. Medicine Hat falls to 2-0-0-1.
