REGINA, Sask. — A 16-year-old Regina girl is facing a long recovery after being struck by a train earlier this month, and her family has launched an online fundraiser to help cover costs of being by her side.
According to Regina Police Service, the incident happened on Sept. 6 around 10 p.m. near Elphinstone Street and McKinley Avenue. Offices responded to the tracks alongside CP Rail Police, emergency medical services and Regina Fire and Protective Services after reports of an injured person. When they arrived, they found a 16-year-old girl suffering from serious injuries.
"Bailey has suffered life-changing injuries,including the loss of three limbs," said a GoFundMe campaign that identified the girl and described her as a “beautiful 16-year-old daughter/niece."
According to the fundraiser, Bailey is receiving care in the pediatric intensive care unit at a Saskatoon children’s hospital. Her family says being present for her is their top priority, but the travel back and forth comes with ongoing costs for gas, food, and hotel accommodations.
“Our reserve has helped support our family financially during the beginning of this journey, and we are incredibly grateful for that assistance,” reads the fundraiser. “Unfortunately, those funds have now been used, while the expenses continue.”
The campaign describes Bailey as a “very loving, kind, and free-spirited young lady” who loved spending time with friends and family. So far, $13,620 has been raised towards the $16,000 goal.
“We know times are difficult for many people, and we are not asking lightly,” said Bailey’s family. “Any amount, no matter how small, would mean so much to Bailey and our family.”
The family are also asking those who can’t donate to consider sharing the fundraiser, sending words of encouragement, or keeping Bailey in their thoughts and prayers.
“Bailey has a long road ahead of her, but she is surrounded by people who love her and are determined to support her every step of the way,” said her family.
