REGINA, Sask. – The appeal hearing of former Regina Police Chief Farooq Sheikh is back under way in Regina.
The three-member panel of the Saskatchewan Police Commission has resumed the hearing Tuesday of Sheikh’s appeal against the Regina Board of Police Commissioners decision. Sheikh was fired with cause in Oct. 2025 by Regina’s Board of Police Commissioners following a Public Complaints Commission investigation that found he exchanged inappropriate private texts for months.
Former chief Sheikh was in attendance for the hearing proceedings this week in Regina.
The first order of business for the hearing on Monday was for the panel to consider an application for a publication ban.
On Tuesday morning, the panel granted that application, prohibiting publication of the name of the individual and other identifying details such as their place of business. During the hearing the individual will be referred to simply as the “complainant.”
The testimony portion of the hearing has now gotten under way. The first witness called is Shawn George, who currently works for Fort Qu’Appelle tribal council but had previously served on the Public Complaints Commission.
Six days have been set aside for the hearing which will run through Sept. 17 this week and then is due to resume Sept. 23 and 24. It is not yet determined when a decision will be rendered.
