REGINA, Sask. — Today, Highways Minister Kim Gartner highlighted a bridge replacement near Consul, highway improvements near Prince Albert and micro-surfacing east of the Border City, while asking motorists to respect work zones.
"Whether crews are working on bridges, resurfacing highways or completing other improvements, every project is about keeping Saskatchewan moving safely and reliably," Gartner said.
"As construction continues into the fall, I encourage drivers to slow down, follow work-zone signage and give crews the space they need to get the job done safely."
Some highlights of ongoing provincial highway projects include:
- Highway 13 bridge near Consul – Work recently began on an estimated $1.3 million project to replace a bridge near the end of its service life on Highway 13 over Swan Coulee about five kilometres east of Consul. Traffic is reduced to one lane with a width restriction of 4.2 metres. The project is expected to be completed mid-November.
- Highway 302 in Prince Albert area – An estimated $13.5 million project from the 15th Street East/15th Avenue intersection in Prince Albert and stretching east for more than 11kilometres on Highway 302 (15th Street East) began in June. Work includes grading, replacing 15 culverts and intersection improvements at Highway 302's junction with Hazelwood Road/River Road and at Highway 302's junction with Sunshine Road, and paving. Work is expected to be completed in 2027.
- Highway 303 east of Lloydminster – About 44 kilometres of micro surfacing on Highway 303 between McLaren and the Border City began in late August. Micro surfacing involves mixing crushed gravel, liquid asphalt, mineral filler, water and other additives to the road surface. The process improves the driving surface by levelling wheel ruts and prevents further surface deterioration from weather and traffic. The $2.6 million project is expected to be completed by mid-September.
All project completions are subject to weather.
