ESTEVAN, Sask. — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has announced an assault charge stemming from an incident earlier this year.
According to the Sept. 22 police report, an ongoing investigation into a fight involving several people in late August resulted in the arrest of a 26-year old Estevan man. The EPS said he was charged with assault and subsequently released on conditions, and he will appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a later date to speak to the charge. Several others involved in the fight have previously been arrested and charged, the EPS said.
Also for Sept. 22, police received a report of an attempted grandparent scam during the day shift. The EPS said the complainant, a family member of the victim, indicated a caller convinced an elderly woman into believing she was sending money to her grandson, and to visit the bank to complete a financial transfer. Staff at the bank intervened in the transfer and no money was lost from the attempted fraud. The matter remains under investigation.
Two reports were filed of suspicious people going door to door and stating that they are selling alarm subscriptions. The EPS said the city has no record of a company operating in the area for this purpose and the matter has been forwarded to the bylaw enforcement officer for further investigation.
The EPS received a complaint of an assault that occurred during the night shift. Upon police arrival, both individuals involved were interviewed, the EPS said, but neither was prepared to provide a statement. Both declined further police involvement. No physical signs of injury were observed by officers on scene. The two individuals were directed to separate for the rest of the night and no further issues were reported to police.
The EPS received a complaint Sept. 21 of two dogs running at large in the Valleyview area. The EPS said members located one of the dogs and returned it to its owner but did not locate the second by the end of the day. The matter was forwarded to the Estevan bylaw officer for additional follow-up as witnesses indicated this is a recurring problem with the same animals.
A report came in of yelling from a residence in the Pleasantdale area. The EPS said members attended and determined one of the residents was angry with another and had been yelling. No physical contact occurred, the EPS said, and the subject was cautioned regarding the noise he had been making.
A complaint of intentional damage to a vehicle’s tire was received. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
A fraud involving several modified cheques was reported to EPS during the night shift. A statement has been obtained and a suspect identified. The EPS said the investigation is ongoing into the complaint.
