WILKIE, Sask. — The countdown is on for Tayla Skinner, a Wilkie teen who has made it to the quarterfinals of the Sports Illustrated Youth Athlete of the Year contest.
Skinner, who was the Class of 2026 valedictorian, continues to share her passion for dance with her younger students at the Hanley School of Dance while pursuing her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan, studying biomedical science with plans to go into veterinary medicine.
The Skinner family is very excited to see her doing so well in the competition and is hoping to find support to help her get to the finish line.
"She is currently sitting in third place, and I think she is the only Saskatchewan athlete to make it through to this stage. Any support is still very much appreciated as each time we see the votes coming through after an update," said her mom, Lois.
