The Melville Millionaires improved to 3-and-2 on the SJHL season Tuesday night with a 4-2 victory over the Flin Flon Bombers at home.
Flin Flon opened the scoring just 2:16 into the first period, as Brendan Phelps netted his first career SJHL goal.
The Millionaires responded on the power play, with Keil Schmalz scoring his first of the season to even things up at one after 20 minutes.
Melville grabbed its first lead of the night in the second period when Ryland McConnell’s long shot from the point beat a screened Finn Werner for his first SJHL goal.
However, Jack Martin answered for the Bombers on the power play just 70 seconds later.
Wesley Olson restored the Millionaires’ lead, finishing a feed from Schmalz in front to score his second of the season and give Melville a 3-2 advantage through 40 minutes.
Isaiah Bagri added some insurance with a breakaway goal with just over six minutes remaining, securing the 4-2 victory.
Noah Kraus stopped 30 of 32 shots to improve his record to 3-and-1, while Werner made 21 saves on 25 shots in the Flin Flon net.
The Millionaires return to action this weekend with a home-and-home series against the Humboldt Broncos, beginning Friday night in Humboldt at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
The Bombers continue their four-game road trip in five nights Wednesday against the Weyburn Red Wings.
Elsewhere in the SJHL on Tuesday, the Humboldt Broncos picked up a 5-2 home-ice win over the Kindersley Klippers.
Kasey Russell Jr. broke a 2-2 tie with 6:35 remaining in the second period, while Ben Dnes, Connor Miller, Gabriel Kaminski and Kayson Christian also scored for Humboldt.
Brady Holtvogt made 23 saves in the Broncos’ victory.
Kindersley’s offence came from a pair of power-play goals by Pryce Thiessen and Dylan McCann.
The Broncos improved to 2-1-1 with the win, while the Klippers dropped to 2-and-1.
Two games are on the schedule Wednesday night, with the Weyburn Red Wings hosting the Flin Flon Bombers, while the Nipawin Hawks visit the Battlefords North Stars.
