Brett Lauther is coming back to Saskatchewan.
The Roughriders have reacquired the veteran kicker from the Ottawa Redblacks in exchange for Saskatchewan’s fifth-round selection in the 2027 CFL Draft.
Lauther returns to the Green and White after spending the first part of the 2026 season in Ottawa, where he has been one of the CFL’s most accurate kickers.
The 34-year-old native of Truro, Nova Scotia, has connected on 32 of 34 field-goal attempts this season, good for a 94.1 percent success rate. He has also made all three of his attempts from beyond 50 yards, including a season-long 56-yarder against Calgary in Week 17. Lauther has converted 22 of 23 extra-point attempts this season.
He now returns to the organization where he spent eight seasons and became one of the most accomplished kickers in Roughriders history. Lauther appeared in 114 regular-season games and eight playoff games with Saskatchewan, including the Riders' 2025 Grey Cup championship season.
He finished his Saskatchewan career 295-for-360 on field-goal attempts. His 81.9 percent accuracy rate is the best in franchise history among players with at least 100 field-goal attempts.
Lauther also delivered his share of memorable moments in a Roughriders uniform. He went 10-for-10 on game-winning field-goal attempts as a Rider, tying for second in CFL history with Paul McCallum. One of those kicks came in the 2019 Labour Day Classic against Winnipeg, when Lauther drilled the game-winner before celebrating in front of Pil Country. Two years later, he added another playoff moment, kicking the overtime winner against Calgary in the 2021 Western Semi-Final.
Now, after spending one season with the REDBLACKS, Lauther is back in Saskatchewan.
And the Roughriders are getting a kicker who has continued to produce at a high level.
Lauther has also handled kickoff duties throughout his career, recording 433 kickoffs for 27,292 yards, an average of 63 yards per kickoff, with a career-long kickoff of 95 yards.
