REGINA, Sask. — The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed October as Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM), in partnership with SARC, to recognize the contributions of people with disabilities in the workforce and promote inclusive employment opportunities across the province.
DEAM is an opportunity to highlight the benefits of inclusive hiring and recognize the importance of a diverse workforce and celebrate the many contributions people with disabilities make to Saskatchewan businesses and communities, states a Sask. Immigration and Career Training press release.
The Saskatchewan Labour Market Strategy: Building the Workforce for a Growing Economy outlines actions the government is taking to increase the number of people with disabilities in the labour force, including investing in Employability Assistance for Persons with Disabilities programs across Saskatchewan.
"DEAM highlights the valuable skills and perspectives people experiencing disability bring to the workplace while celebrating employers that are building more inclusive workforces,” said SARC Executive Director Amy McNeil.
“By recognizing talent and removing barriers to employment, Saskatchewan businesses can strengthen their organizations, communities, and our province's economy."
The Ministry of Immigration and Career Training works to help Saskatchewan residents connect to career planning, employment services and training opportunities for in-demand jobs. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the ministry at 1-833-613-0485 or saskjobs@gov.sk.ca.
