CANADA — Canadians may want to check their hand warmers before the cold weather sets in, as HotHands and OCOOPA are recalling their rechargeable hand warmers. According to Health Canada's recall website, the lithium-ion battery and electrical components for both brands can overheat and ignite, posing a potential burn hazard.
The HotHands hand warmers included in the recall are white with orange, Model number H163650, sold in packs of two warmers that can be magnetically joined together, and include a charging cable. The devices have a USB-C port for charging the built-in lithium-ion batteries in each unit. The adjustable-heat warmers also have LED indicator lights on the hard plastic shell and come with a silicone lanyard.
The affected products were sold between July 2025 to August 2026 in Canada and the United States, with 72 units sold in Canada and 77,000 south of the border. As of Sept. 14, there have been no reports of incidents or injuries between the two countries.
The OCOOPA hand warmers are sold in a variety of colours and designs, with Model numbers UT3053, UT3056, ZLS-118, ZLS-118S, ZLS-118D, H01 and H01(PD). They are also sold in packs of two that can be magnetically joined and come with a charging cord. Much like the HotHands warmers, the warmers have a USB-C port for charging, adjustable heat and LED indicator lights on the hard plastic shell with a silicone lanyard.
In Canada, 23,000 units have been sold between September 2025 to May 2026, with no reports of incidents or injuries occurring in Canada.
