SIRT investigating after injury during RCMP arrest on MGBHLM First Nation

MOSQUITO GRIZZLY BEAR'S HEAD LEAN MAN FIRST NATION, Sask. — Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) were notified after an injury occurred during an RCMP arrest.

On Oct. 6 at around 1 p.m., Battlefords RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle on Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation. The vehicle failed to stop and pulled into the driveaway of a residence. The investigation determined the driver of the vehicle had a suspended licence and was on warrant status. He was arrested without incident.

There were two passengers in the vehicle, a woman and a man. The man did not comply with officers’ requests for him to exit the vehicle. The investigators removed him from the vehicle and arrested him.

Officers called EMS for further assessment of the man. The man was later released without charges

The RCMP was later notified the man was required to receive further medical care due to an injury. Given the nature of the injury, the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) was notified and will investigate the circumstances of police involvement leading to the man’s injury.
