SASKATCHEWAN — Saskatchewan lottery players are dreaming big as LOTTO MAX reaches a record-breaking $90-million jackpot for Friday night’s draw.
It’s the largest jackpot ever offered by a Canadian lottery and the first time LOTTO MAX has reached its new maximum since the game was upgraded in April.
For Elwood Episkenew of Fort Qu’Appelle, winning the massive prize would be exciting, even if he hasn’t figured out what he would do with the money.
“I just buy it hoping that I win the 90 million, and what I’m going to do with it – I don’t know.”
Regina’s Mark Dumanski says that when there’s a jackpot this big, it can be tempting to throw a little more into the pot.
“I might buy an extra ticket when the jackpot is that high. I’d take care of family…donate lots of it,” Dumanski said.
Maurice Smyth, from Kennedy, Sask., also says he would share the wealth with his loved ones and others.
“I’d give it to all my kids, and probably some charities, and people that might need it,” Smyth said.
Friday’s draw includes more than just the $90-million jackpot. There are also 18 MAXMILLIONS prizes worth $1 million each and 90 prizes of $100,000, bringing the total available top prizes to $117 million.
Kevin van Egdom, spokesperson for Lotto Spot, says the milestone is exciting for players across the Prairies.
If nobody wins Friday night, the jackpot will remain at $90 million for Tuesday’s draw, with the number of available MAXMILLIONS prizes increasing to 20.
Tickets are available until 9:30 p.m. Central time Friday. Lottery officials remind players that outcomes are based on chance and encourage them to play within their budgets.
