REGINA, Sask. — Saturday’s matchup against Montreal also marks a major milestone for the Roughriders, as the team celebrates 80 years of representing Saskatchewan.
The occasion will be recognized during the team’s Legends Game, themed “One Province, 80 Years,” honouring the transition from the Regina Roughriders to a team representing the entire province.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium, with plenty of activities planned to celebrate the team’s history and generations of players and fans.
Supporters can enjoy tailgating at 8 a.m., a free pancake breakfast in the park at 10 a.m., alumni appearances, and a special look at Saskatchewan’s sporting history before the game. The Roughriders will also wear retro jerseys inspired by the 1966 era, paying tribute to the team’s past.
Regina resident and longtime Riders fan Shannon Herschmiller says she’s hopeful the Green and White can come away with a win at Mosaic Stadium.
“It’s really the only thing that we have going for us in Saskatchewan, is the Riders, so a win is a positive for everyone involved.”
Another fan, Clint Kollybaba, shares that sentiment, saying a victory would go a long way with the fans.
“They’re the only big team that we got. They've got to win so we’re happy.”
At halftime, Dan Clark, Rob Bagg and Paul McCallum will be formally inducted into the SaskTel Plaza of Honour, recognizing their contributions to the organization.
