REGINA, Sask. — A 27-year-old man faces multiple charges after a high-speed pursuit through Regina early Saturday morning that ended with a collision.
At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 17, officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of 11th Avenue and Smith Street. The vehicle evaded officers, proceeding through a red light at a high rate of speed. The Aerial Support Unit (ASU) monitored the vehicle through the city, reaching speeds of up to 150 km/h and running through multiple red lights.
Officers on the ground deployed a tire deflation device in an effort to safely stop the vehicle. Near the intersection of Assiniboine Avenue and University Park Drive, the driver lost control and collided with a parked car. An adult male exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
While running from police, the suspect discharged bear spray in the direction of pursuing officers. A Police Service Dog (PSD) was deployed and successfully apprehended the suspect. The suspect sustained injuries consistent with a dog bite. A subsequent search of the area led to the seizure of a can of bear spray.
A 27-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, failing to stop after an accident, resisting arrest, assault a police officer with a weapon, and possession of a weapon.
He appeared in Regina court on Oct. 19.
