The price of food is forecast to rise two to four percent in 2020.
The latest Canada Food Price Report says the average family will pay an extra $487 a year on their annual grocery bill.
Lead author Sylvain Charlebois with the University of Dalhousie says the increase is due to higher cost of meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables in 2020.
He says the biggest bump in prices will come from meat.
Charlebois says Swine Fever in Asia is prompting strong beef and pork demand and pushing up meat prices in Canada in the coming year.
The report says the average family of four is expected to spend 12 thousand 667 dollars on food and restaurant meals in 2020.
