A significant recall by Health Canada is affecting thousands snow throwers sold across the country. The Benchmark brand snow thrower, sold by Home Hardware, is being recalled over the threat of electrical shock. Approximately 37,000 machines are affected by the recall.
The affected product bears the model number YF6022, which is located on the back base of the snow thrower. The units have a 22-inch cut, a 15-amp electric motor, and are black and red in colour.
According to Health Canada, the electrical cord on the machine could break in cold weather which may cause the user to suffer an electrical shock. So far, 19 confirmed instances of cables breaking have been reported across Canada with no documented injuries.
Health Canada reminds anyone who may have one of the affected snow throwers to stop using the machine and notify Home Hardware.
