SASKATOON, Sask. — Police have arrested and charged a man following an arson investigation.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 28, members of the Saskatoon Police Service arrested a 33-year-old Saskatoon man in the 800 block of Idylwyld Drive North in connection with the arson that occurred on Oct. 16 in the 300 block of Avenue E North.
Through their continued investigation, say police, officers also identified the man as a suspect in two other arsons that occurred in July in the 200 and 300 blocks of 5th Avenue North.
Cody Hamm has been charged with arson with disregard for human life and two counts of arson with damage to property.
He appeared in Saskatoon court on Oct. 29 and was remanded in custody. His next scheduled court appearance is on Nov. 2.
Earlier in October, Saskatoon police had appealed to the public for help identifying a suspect. Between about 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 15 and 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 16, a person or persons were observed on multiple sources of video surveillance “prowling” in the area where a suspicious fire occurred shortly after. At that time, police said they hadn’t confirmed if it was the same or separate person(s), but investigators believed the shoes to be the same.
The charges against Hamm haven’t been tested in court.
