The Melville Millionaires extended their point streak to six games Friday night, picking up a 3-1 win over the visiting Nipawin Hawks at the CN Community Centre.
The Mils came out flying, getting on the board twice in the opening period. Wesley Olson opened the scoring just 4:59 into the game before Rylan Oatman added a power-play marker to give Melville a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Nipawin got one back in the second period when Jack Janzen buried a rebound past Noah Kraus for his 10th goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1 heading into the third.
However, that was as close as the Hawks would get. Oatman sealed the victory with his second of the night, finding the empty net with 58 seconds remaining.
Kraus was outstanding between the pipes, turning aside 40 of 41 shots to pick up his eighth win of the season. Connor Johnson made 37 saves in the Nipawin net as the Hawks saw their own seven-game point streak come to an end.
Melville improves to 9-4-0-1 on the season and returns to the ice Tuesday night when they welcome the Warman Wolverines.
