REGINA, Sask. — Luther College, Regina, welcomes a new member to the Luther College Board of Regents.
Jeff Barber was elected for his first term (2026-30) at Luther College’s 2026 annual general meeting held Oct. 24.
Barber, who has just retired as library director and CEO from the Regina Public Library, is a chartered director with extensive board, executive leadership, strategy and governance experience.
He is a current council member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) and treasurer of the Saskatchewan Synod of the ELCIC.
Barber holds an MBA from Royal Roads University as well as a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Alberta, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
Board chairperson Helga Hein says she is delighted that Barber is joining the board.
"Jeff's executive leadership and extensive governance experience add important expertise to the board. As his library career winds down, Jeff sees governance leadership as an opportunity to contribute to Luther College's future and to support the institution through the work of the Board of Regents.”
Barber adds that his own positive experience as a young person attending a small college within a larger university also contributed to his interest in Luther College.
He joins current board members: Helga Hein (chairperson); June Schultz (vice-chairperson), Robert Davis (corporate secretary); Jim Vadeboncoeur (treasurer); Dr. Nancy Brown; Dr. Stephen Davis; Derek DeBolt; Lee Elliott; Leslee Fraser; Don Hamilton; Rev. Victoria Mwamasika; Alice Nicholls Asikinack; Graham Quick; Brennen Schmidt; Marie Shalashniy; and Rev. Michael Wellman.
Andrea Wagner has completed her term on the board of regents (2018-26).
"Andrea has been actively engaged on the board, serving in committee chair roles as well as board chairperson (2024-25). We are grateful for the business skills, governance expertise and principled leadership she brought to the board table. We will miss her passionate voice," adds Hein.
