REGINA, Sask. – It was another memorable I Love Regina Pats game this year at the Brandt Centre.
For the second year in a row, the City of Regina sponsored the game as a way to showcase the city’s services and all the things Regina has to offer.
This year’s game saw pre-game activities in the adjoining Ag Ex building which included a city bus, a fire truck from Regina Fire and Protective Services, various machinery as well as a host of kiosks and memorabilia, including sales of I Love Regina and Tourism Regina items.
The game was attended by a number of city officials and members of council, including Mayor Chad Bachynski, who dropped the puck for the opening faceoff.
After the game ended, fans were able to go on the Brandt Centre ice for a public skate.
As expected, the game drew what is expected to be among the biggest crowds for the Pats for the season, with attendance of 5,360 for the afternoon contest.
There was one group of people who were particularly happy about the day: the Lethbridge Hurricanes, who spoiled all the fun for the Regina home crowd with a 6-3 win over the Pats.
The Hurricanes got four goals in the first period and had a 6-1 lead at one point in the third period before Regina ended the game with two goals. Ossi Tukio, Matt Paranych and Jace Egland got the goals for the Pats, with the loss being their first on home ice this season.
