The Melville Millionaires extended their winning streak to five games with an impressive 6-1 victory over the league-leading Warman Wolverines on Tuesday night.
The Mils came out flying, scoring four times in the opening period, with all four goals coming on the power play.
Following a five-minute kneeing major to Warman’s Trey Markus, Preston Baerwald and Keil Schmalz struck just 1:45 apart to give Melville a 2-0 lead.
Cole Brown then took over, scoring twice late in the period to send the Millionaires into the intermission up 4-0.
Brown completed the natural hat trick just 73 seconds into the second period, scoring his seventh of the season and giving Melville its fifth power-play goal of the night.
Warman got on the board at the 7:42 mark when Oliver Nottingham beat a sprawling Noah Kraus with a wraparound for his second of the season.
The Mils answered just over five minutes later. Kale Margolis redirected a nice pass from Connor Arko into the net to restore Melville’s five-goal cushion at 6-1.
Kraus stopped 27 of 28 shots to earn his ninth win of the season, tying Flin Flon’s Finn Werner for the SJHL lead in victories.
Former Millionaire Luke Brunen took the loss, allowing six goals on 40 shots as Warman’s six-game winning streak came to an end.
Melville returns home Saturday night to host the Nipawin Hawks at the CN Community Centre. Warman heads to Flin Flon for a pair of games against the Bombers on Friday and Saturday.
