REGINA, Sask. — Jacqueline Roy will seek a second term as the MLA for Regina Northeast.
Roy was nominated as the riding's NDP candidate for the next provincial election during a Nov. 6 meeting. She is the shadow minister for women's health, status of women and Francophone affairs, and was recently named the Regina caucus chairwoman.
She was first elected to the legislature in the 2024 provincial election.
“Jackie is a tireless fighter for people all across Saskatchewan — she brings compassion and a disciplined worth ethic to everything she does,” said Saskatchewan NDP leader Carla Beck. “Jackie isn't afraid to roll up her sleeves and get to work. She's shown up in enormous ways for the Francophone community and as a critical leader in the largest consultation on health care in Saskatchewan history. I am so excited to see what Jackie will do when we form the next government and get to work delivering the Saskatchewan people deserve.”
Prior to being elected, Roy spent nearly two decades as a middle-school teacher. During that time, she was elected to the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation's (STF) provincial council. The NDP claimed she originally decided to run for office after witnessing cuts that affected students' education, career choices and mental health by the Saskatchewan Party government.
"It has been a true honour to represent the good people of Regina Northeast over the last two years, and I look forward to continuing that work into the next election and beyond," said Roy. “The Sask. Party have had two decades to deliver on their promises. And yet health care, education and public safety have never been worse.
“It really is time for change."
The next provincial election will be Oct. 30, 2028.
