I have said numerous times that CKRM has the best listeners and clients because it’s true especially this time of year when everybody starts bringing in Christmas treats. It is not uncommon to be feasting on homemade shortbread by 10:30 a.m. around this time of year and spitting cookie crumbs all over the mic sock and board. Colin Lovequist is not a fan of coming into the control room after me!
It’s also a heck of a load on the waistline. The time of year when we see what our belts are really made of! But do we really worry about that at Christmas? Every year I tell myself that I’m going to cut back on the treats, I’m going to head to the gym more frequently around Christmas, and watch my portion intake. Does this happen? Heck no! December is the one month of the year where cookies are expected for (or with) breakfast and we’re expected to complain, yet enjoy, every single bite. Complaining about our Christmas diet is like complaining about the weather, it would be weird if we didn’t! According to my last check up I no longer have blood running through my veins, only sugar.
In other words, my Christmas diet is not going well like every year and that’s OK because now I expect it. I still squeeze the veggies and fruit in when I can but it’s pretty much full on fudge, shortbread, and tarts until Dec 31st. If only cauliflower could taste like fudge. Once January 1st hits we can jump back on our diets and feel less guilty…until all the Valentine’s Day chocolate comes out!
