Federal agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau has completed a successful trade trip to the U.K. and Germany.
She spoke in London at the International Grains Council forum, reaffirming Canada’s support for Ukraine’s agricultural sector and called for further stability in the global grains value chain.
She was involved in a roundtable discussion with U.K. agriculture and food and drink associations to promote Canadian trade.
In Berlin, Bibeau met with a number of her counterparts at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture, joining 64 ministers from around the world to discuss how food systems can best respond to multiple crises.
She reiterated Canada’s condemnation of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine in creating global food security problems.
Bibeau also promoted open and transparent agricultural trade.
She shared her insight as the co-chair of the recent Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Agriculture Ministers meeting.
Bibeau was part of a U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization event to discuss efforts for the recovery of Ukraine’s food systems.
Canada is the world’s fifth largest exporter and sixth largest importer of agriculture and food products.
The European union is Canada’s second largest trading partner, after the U.S., and Canada’s fourth largest market for farm products.
