The federal government is providing 14 million dollars to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank to help respond to the global hunger crisis.
Foodgrains Bank executive director, Andy Harrington, says the funding will help provide access to emergency food services for over 100 thousand people in Ethiopia, South Sudan, Kenya and Somalia.
He says there has been a startling rise in global world hunger this year, particularly across the Horn of Africa.
Communities in the region are facing the threat of starvation following four consecutive failed rainy seasons in parts of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, a climatic event not seen in at least 40 years.
At least 22 million people are facing high levels of acute food insecurity and the number is rising.
The 14 million dollar federal grant will help implement projects through 11 organizations in four countries.
