Red Sovine was born on this day in 1918 in Charleston, WV. His real name was Woodrow Wilson Sovine, but picked up the nickname “Red” thanks to his hair colour as a boy.
Luke Bryan celebrates his 44th birthday today. He made his debut in 2007 when “All my Friends Say” reached number five on the chart. His first number one was “Rain is a Good Thing” in 2010.
Barbara Mandrell snagged her fifth number one on this day in 1982 with “Till You’re Gone.”
“Chattahoochee” from Alan Jackson started a four week ride at number one on July 17th, 1993.
July 18th, 1952 Hank Williams released “Jambalaya (on the Bayou).” It went to number one in October of 1952
Ricky Skaggs celebrates his 66th birthday on Saturday. He was only 6 years old when he first appeared on stage playing the mandolin with Bill Monroe.
Saturday also marks the 33rd anniversary of “I Know Where I’m Going” from The Judds reaching number one.
July 19th, 1980 Mickey Gilley took an old Buddy Holly song to number one. “True Love Ways” would stay at number one for one week
Sunday marks six years since the passing of George Hamilton IV. He’s best remembered for his 1962 hit “Abilene.”
