The latest SaskWheat outlook says the Russian invasion of Ukraine has resulted in rising demand for Canadian wheat.
SaskWheat analyst Michael Wilton says Iraq bought an estimated 50 to 100 thousand tons of wheat from Canada last week.
Wilton is an analyst with Mercantile Consulting and compiles the weekly market report for the SaskWheat website.
He adds the Russian invasion of Ukraine and restricted supplies has turned countries like Iraq and Bangladesh to seek Canadian wheat.
Wilton says Canada exported 1.6 million tons of wheat in September, with China the biggest customer.
He says China bought 535 thousand tons of wheat from Canada in August and September, 139 percent higher than a year ago.
Wilton says Canadian wheat exports total 4.6 million tons so far this crop year, 25 percent of the projected total and on track to meet Agriculture Canada’s forecast.
