As of Friday, the Kettle Campaign for The Salvation army officially began.
Kettle stations are now up collecting donations across the city.
Executive Director of The Salvation Army, Al Hoeft, says this fundraiser is extremely important for the organization this season.
“The Salvation Army has been working here in the city, helping families, helping individuals. Obviously, in tough economic times, that becomes even more important and we know a lot of families and a lot of individuals are struggling this year,” says Hoeft.
“We are really making sure that we are doing a great job with this year’s Kettle Campaign so that we can raise the funds that we need to be able to support them.”
Residents are still able to give cash donations but this year The Salvation Army is offering a contactless option for people to donate.
People now have the option to tap and pay with debit or credit cards or phones.
“We have a $5, $10, and $20 square on each of our kettle locations where people will just be able to tap and make that donation,” says Hoeft.
Hoeft also emphasized the need for volunteers this year
“We’re really in need of volunteers this year. COVID-19 has really taken a hit on our volunteer base but if folks are able to volunteer they can definitely go online to havenofhope.ca and under our Christmas 2022 (tab) you’ll be able to find out how can I help this Christmas,” says Hoeft.
All of the donations from the Kettle Campaign will go towards The Salvation Army’s Christmas Hamper Program as well as its year-round services.
