Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is donating a Jumpstart Inclusive Playground and Spray Pad as a $1.2 million gift-in-kind to the City of Regina.
“We are grateful to local Canadian Tire dealers François Brien and Mario Coccimiglio and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities for this substantial donation,” said Mayor Sandra Masters in a release. “This is an investment in the future of fun and inclusive recreation for families in our community.”
The new accessible playground and spray pad will be installed next to the centrally-located Lawson Aquatics Centre in 2023.
“We are thrilled to introduce our inclusive and accessible Jumpstart play spaces to the City of Regina with the generous support of our local Canadian Tire Dealers in South and East Regina,” said Scott Fraser, President, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. “On track to creating largescale inclusive playgrounds in every province and territory across Canada, our goal is to ensure they become the standard for inclusivity by creating imaginative spaces where children of all abilities can share in the magic of play.”
The City is currently exploring the feasibility of a new indoor aquatics facility at the same site. The inclusive playground and spray pad will become an integral part of the recreation facilities in the area.
Clustering several amenities at one site creates opportunities for residents to meet and socialize, as well as future opportunities for playground and spray pad users to take advantage of the aquatics facility features, such as accessible washrooms and changerooms.
