One of the Riders big moves in the off-season was the signing of linebacker Solomon Elimimian.
After nine seasons in B.C, Elimimian was cut by the Lions and picked up by Saskatchewan just prior to training camp, but a calf injury sustained in one of his first practices has kept him on the shelf.
On Thursday as the team got back onto the field to get ready for Monday’s game with the Argos, the 32-year-old was on the field.
He says it has been frustrating not being able to contribute, but he is feeling better and better every day.
“It’s been tough.” Elimimian admitted. “Coming to a new team and all the speculation about when I am going to start playing, but you have to stay confident and not go out and rush things. While unable to contribute physically, I’ve been getting in the mental reps by meeting and studying with the coaches and players and making sure the terminology is consistent.
Head Coach Craig Dickenson liked what he saw from Elimimian at Thursday’s practice, but he isn’t saying whether or not he will play Monday. Dickenson says he needs more time and that a decision will likely be made after Friday’s session.

NOTES:
- Zach Collaros was not on the field Thursday. Dickenson says he is in Hamilton getting looked at and will rejoin the team after their bye week on July 16.
- Another player working out looking to get on the field in game action was Emmanuel Arceneaux. The receiver says he is ready when the call comes, but it is the organization that will make the call as to when he suits up. Dickenson didn’t rule out the receiver playing on Monday.
- While Elimimian and Arceneaux were practicing with the club, offensive lineman Brendon Labatte remains out with a lower-body ailment
