Saskatchewan will have to wait a few more hours before finding out what the province’s plan is when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines.
Health Minister Paul Merriman and provincial chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab were to release the details at 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, but a power outage hit south Regina including the Saskatchewan Legislature just moments before the press conference was to begin. With hopes that the lights would get turned back on, the province delayed the announcement twice before finally saying the plan would be unveiled on Wednesday morning at 10 AM.
“Not only are we ready in Saskatchewan to receive those vaccines and to store them properly, but we’re ready in Saskatchewan to ultimately start distributing them to Saskatchewan people as soon as we receive them,” Premier Scott Moe said on Monday. “We will distribute as many as we receive as quickly as we can.”
It is expected the first batch of vaccines Saskatchewan receives will be enough to serve around 4,000 people.
