COVID-19’s impact is being felt at the University of Regina.
Interim president Dr. Thomas Chase says as it stands right now, the U of R is facing a $13.5 million dollar shortfall.
Chase says parking and residence revenues are each down by $4 million while the move to waive student fees has resulted in a sizable loss as well.
Chase, in a release, says meetings are being held to determine how to address the shortfall with a board meeting being held this week to discuss the matter as well.
Earlier this year, the U of R passed a budget of $238 million dollars. When making that announcement, they also said tuition and fees would remain at 2019-20 levels
Chase says there are no plans on laying off anyone so that a full complement of staff is ready to go once the pandemic comes to an end.
Last week, the U of R said remote learning, which is underway now, would continue in the winter semester that begins in January.
