The Regina Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service have opened two separate death investigations after bodies were found on Sunday and Monday.
Police learned of the first individual on Sunday morning when they were dispatched at 11:18 a.m. to an area on the north shore near Wascana Lake between the waterfall and the marina.
In a statement from RPS, the person who called in to police said they found an unresponsive man lying on the shore. The caller was in a watercraft on the lake and had a view of the shoreline not available to pedestrians or other recreational users.
Once EMS arrived at the scene, paramedics confirmed he was deceased and police contacted the coroner and forensic identification investigators.
Officials have identified the individual and next of kin have been notified of his death. His name will not be released by police.
The coroner has ordered an autopsy and investigators believe at this stage that his death does not appear to be a criminal matter.
A second body was found on Monday morning at the CP railway tracks near 6th Avenue and Park Street.
Officers received the call before 8:00 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive man. CP Rail employees noticed the man and tried to rouse him, but could not.
Police and EMS attended the scene where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The coroner and forensic identification officials were called shortly after.
Next of kin have been notified of his death and his name will not be released by RPS.
At this time, an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of this person’s death. Early information from the coroner indicates this to not appear to be a criminal matter.
