A GoFundMe page has been created for Peg Leippi, from Regina’s own Peg’s Kitchen, after a tragic occurrence led to a fall that almost cost Peg her life.
Peg sustained life altering injures, that include a broken clavicle, broken scapula, multiple fractures and broken vertebrae in her neck and back, bruised lungs, a broken pelvis and severe trauma to her lower back.
She will likely be paralyzed from the chest down as a result and remains in hospital in the ICU.
Her family is now trying to figure out what needs to be done to help Peg on her road to recovery and what her life will look like afterwards.
Speaking to 620 CKRM’s Gloria Evans and Cody Glydon on Tuesday morning, Peg’s daughter in-law Alyssa Leippi, said they also want to make people aware of mental health struggles and the invisible battle that anyone could be going through.
She revealed to CKRM, that after years of mental health struggles, only magnified by the negative impacts the pandemic has had on many small business owners, Peg attempted to take her own life this past weekend.
“If anyone has ever met my mother in-law or have ever listened to her or seen her, you would have no clue that she was battling any kind of mental illness,” Leippi said. “She was so scared of the judgement that might come along if someone knew that she was struggling, for us we really just don’t want any other family to experience what we’re going through, if you’re struggling please talk to someone,” Leippi said.
Peg and her husband Vern Leippi have been staples in Regina and it’s business community for over 20 years.
As of Wednesday morning, almost $48,000 had been raised.
