The City of Regina is encouraging residents to take part in their second survey to receive input on budget spending.
In their first survey launched back in July, about 2,500 people participated in the online survey where they identified roads, public safety, snow clearing and recreation as their top spending priorities overall. The results show that 69 per cent of respondents feel roads should be one of the city’s top three priorities, followed by public safety at 66 per cent.
Barry Lacey, executive director of financial strategy and sustainability with the city, said these surveys help the city develop the budget for next year.
“It will allow us to dig a little deeper to understand what we heard out of the first survey and how that might align to the 2021 budget,” explained Lacey.
Respondents also showed they would like the city’s decision-making to be based on attracting new or supporting existing businesses, maintaining or increasing capital spending and reducing city spending.
Lacey said the multi-phased approach to this year’s budget consultation with residents is an important step to learn more about what matters in the city moving forward.
“It’s important to allocate the resources we have available to us so residents can tell us the services we should be delivering.”
The second survey will take approximately ten minutes to complete. Deadline is October 4.
