The Nekaneet First Nation in Saskatchewan is joining four First Nations in Alberta in signing a historic Memorandum of Understanding with TC Energy.
It will facilitate one of the largest indigenous equity investments of its kind in North America.
The goal is an equity interest in the Keystone XL Pipeline Project and other potential related midstream and power projects.
A final agreement between TC Energy and Natural Law Energy – the name of the Treaty alliance of First Nations – is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
Keystone XL President Richard Prior says, “We aspire to expand this model into future opportunities for other Indigenous groups along our Keystone XL right-of-way both in Canada and the United States.”
The Nekaneet First Nation is in the southwest part of the province.
