Police services from across Canada took part in Operation Impact 2020 over the Thanksgiving long weekend, an annual campaign focused on showing drivers the impact they have for themselves and others when it comes to road safety.
Among those who participated in this year’s edition was the Regina Police Service whose members found they had to remind motorists to drive safely and sober.
From Friday, October 9 to Monday, October 12, a total of 74 Summary Offence Ticket Information (traffic tickets) were issued to drivers in the provincial capital. This includes people who were aggressive driving, impaired driving, distracted driving or not wearing or properly wearing their seatbelts.
There were also two individuals who were arrested and charged for impaired driving and exceeding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08.
Combined Traffic Services of Saskatchewan, which involves members of RPS and other law enforcement agencies, also took part in Operation Impact 2020. CTSS recorded a total of 271 enforcement actions including charges, tickets, warnings, roadside suspensions, vehicle inspection requirements and other offences. Of those 271 enforcement actions, 41 speeding tickets were issued.
“As Operation Impact 2020 comes to a close and we all settle back into our post-long weekend routines, the Regina Police Service reminds motorists that the need for safe driving behavior lasts all year long,” stated RPS in a release late Tuesday afternoon. “Safety doesn’t happen by accident. Drive safely. Drive alert. Drive sober.”
