The latest Water Security Agency runoff forecast shows varying conditions across Saskatchewan this spring.
The preliminary outlook shows most of southern Saskatchewan with below normal snowmelt runoff potential.
The central areas, with above normal snowpack, can expect an above normal snowmelt response.
However, flooding is not expected.
For the south, one exception to the below normal runoff is projected for an area just east of Moose Jaw through Weyburn, Indian Head and Regina.
The Regina area is expected to see near normal snowmelt and runoff.
The melt rate will have a significant impact on runoff and a rapid melt is needed to improve surface water supplies.
Without additional snowfall, surface water supplies are likely to occur in southwestern Saskatchewan in 2022.
The outlook could change because there is another 8 to 10 weeks of winter remaining.
The next spring runoff forecast will be issued in early March.
