The City of Regina is warning residents to be on the lookout for blue-green algae.
A lack of rain and high-than-average temperatures throughout the summer have created what the City says are “ideal conditions” for blue-green algae blooms to form in Regina’s retention ponds.
The City says it is monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis with regular testing.
“These blooms create toxins that are potentially harmful to pets, children and adults,” they said. “For this reason, the City urges citizens to stay out of the water and away from algae at retention ponds.”
The City noted that If your pet accidentally enters a pond, wash their paws to ensure they do not ingest any harmful material when they clean their fur.
