100 workers within the CUPE 882 union are now on strike in Prince Albert.
According to a media release put out this morning the City of Prince Albert has refused requests since the end of July – with the latest round of talks being turned down – employees are now on strike.
This marks the cities first CUPE job action in over 12 years in Saskatchewan and more than 70 years in CUPE 882’s history.
CUPE 882 members have twice rejected the city’s offer of 11% over four years. The union’s latest offer to settle significantly reduced the costs associated with a collective agreement and included a four-year settlement with a 12% wage increase.
The strike will affect city services and programing at City Hall, The Center for the arts, and other public facilities across the city of Prince Albert.
